AN artist’s childhood memories of a seaside rail line have inspired an exhibition of railway-themed paintings.
Steven Fox spent three years creating artwork for his Hot Coals and Ash exhibition, which opens at the McGuinness Gallery, in Bishop Auckland Town Hall, County Durham, on Monday.
Mr Fox, from Esh Winning, says his interest in railways stems from watching the rail lines and hoppers at Seaham Harbour’s docks in the Seventies, with his grandmother and sister.
His exhibition consists of oil and acrylic paintings, watercolour, and mixed media. Mr Fox, who is studying arboriculture at Houghall College, in Durham, said: “I am fascinated with the perspective of rail lines running into the distance, and based the exhibition on childhood memories, and visits to the railways in Shildon, Tanfield, and York.”
The exhibition runs until January 30. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturday.
