ALL flights to and from Durham Tees Valley Airport have tonight been cancelled due to ice on the runway.

A spokeswoman for the airport said staff were trying to make the runway safe and were constantly reassessing the situation - but that the situation would depend on weasther conditions over the next few hours.

"The runway is unsafe because of the icy conditions and it is just down to the extreme weather we have had over the past few days.

"Our main priority is the safety of our passengers and the safety of the aircraft and we are doing everything we possibly can to re-open the runway", she added.
