Ferryhill residents turned out in force to honour the armed forces and in particular those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The parade led by the Lord Lieutenants representative, Professor John Anstee, marched from the Cenotaph to Saint Luke’s Church. Following the church service the parade marched back to the Cenotaph for the final stages of the service; the Last Post, two minutes silence and the laying of the wreaths.
The Remembrance Day event, organised by Ferryhill Town Council, was hailed a resounding success by local veterans. More than 30 local organisations and community groups took part. In total over 300 hundred people gathered in the market place for the final stages of the service.
Local Army Veteran, George Miller said, “This is a wonderful community day where everyone comes together. This shows how much Ferryhill cares for its armed forces”.
