A TEENAGER has died seven days after suffering serious head injuries after an incident at a nightclub Halloween party.

Hundreds of tributes have been paid to Nathan Andrew Allen, 19, from Darlington, who died on Saturday morning without regaining consciousness.

His family kept a vigil at his bedside after he was found outside the town’s Inside Out nightclub in the early hours of November 1.

Two men, believed to be doormen, have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail.

Detectives will meet today to discuss whether the case will be classified as manslaughter.

Mr Allen, better known by his nickname “Eggy”, lived in the Skerne Park area of Darlington.

His family was too upset to comment last night, and Detective Constable Angela Makepeace said they were struggling to come to terms with the news.

“The family have been at his bedside all week, and they need a little bit of time now,”

she said.

“They are dreadfully upset at the moment. It has been an awful ordeal for them – to lose someone at such a young age is terrible.”

The Beaumont Street club was busy with revellers celebrating Halloween on the night of the incident.

Mr Allen was enjoying a night out with his cousin and friends when he became involved in an altercation with another clubber, who was wearing a fancy dress costume.

The man, dressed as The Riddler, a character from the film Batman Forever, has since been questioned by police but not arrested.

It is believed Mr Allen was ejected from the club, and was injured when he fell down the stairs outside while trying to get back in.

He was taken to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he remained in intensive care.

Hundreds of tributes have been paid to the popular teenager on the internet.

A Facebook page titled RIP Nathan Allen (Eggy) has been set up, and has attracted more than 700 members. Friend Danny Storey wrote: “Can’t believe you are gone, life will never be the same without you. I will never stop thinking of you and the good times we have had together. You have always been there for me mate and I’ll never forget that.”

Darren Park wrote: “RIP Eggy.

You will be missed mate. Wish I had a chance to say good bye.”

Nicola Owens said: “Still hasn't sunk in what has happened. Eggy was a good friend and I will miss him loads.”

Detective Constable Angela Makepeace told The Northern Echo that a post-mortem examination would be carried out later this week to determine the cause of death. She said: “We have spoken to a number of people who were at the club on the night, and we would like to hear from anyone else who has any information.”

Two Darlington men aged 30 and 45, who have not been named, have been arrested and released on bail.
