SAILORS from a county’s adopted warship brought a smile to the faces of sick children yesterday.
Crew members from HMS Bulwark, the affiliated ship of County Durham, spent time chatting with and telling stories to ill youngsters in the Treetops children’s ward at the University Hospital of North Durham, in Durham City.
The sailors also presented the ward with art based on photographs taken during the ship’s recent deployment to the Middle East.
Earlier in the day, the sailors had spent time visiting children at Forest-in-Teesdale School, near Barnard Castle. The remote school is one of the smallest in the country, with 14 pupils.
Sailors told stories and answered questions from pupils.
