A VALUABLE set of war medals has been stolen during a burglary at a house.
Thieves made off with five medals from the First and Second World Wars, which had belonged to the householder’s father.
They were stolen from the Haxby Road area of York between 7pm on Sunday and 12.30pm on Monday.
One was a 1914-15 Star – a bronze star-shaped medal bearing two crossed swords, awarded to those who served in France and Flanders between November 1914 and December 1915.
There was also a British War Medal – a circular silver medal awarded to those serving overseas between August 1914 and November 1918.
The haul also includes a Victory Medal – a circular gold medal awarded to those who fought between 1914 and 1919.
Also taken was the King Haakon VII’s Freedom Cross, issued after Norway’s liberation in 1945.
Other items taken from the property include a silver Dell flat-screen TV, a bronze Rico R10 digital camera, a metallic grey, men’s Raleigh town bike and about eight pairs of cufflinks.
