VISITORS to a North-East museum watched school pupils creating art from recycled bottle tops yesterday.
Youngsters from Spennymoor School, in County Durham, were working on the art project in the gallery of Durham University’s Oriental Museum, in Durham City.
The children were creating a mandala, a sculpture usually made from sand by Tibetan Buddhist monks in an act of devotion.
In place of sand, the pupils used recycled bottle tops.
The finished work will form part of the Wonders of the Orient exhibition, which also includes other art created by Spennymoor School pupils, and will be on display in the Oriental Museum until January 17.
Items showcased include paintings, textiles and ceramics.
They were created over two years, as part of a project between the school and the museum.
