A COUPLE are preparing for an endurance effort as a hospice fundraising campaign hots up.

Lisa and Lee Parkin are among 20 people who will take part in a firewalk challenge tomorrow night.

But the training they will receive before they walk over a 20ft path of hot coals in their bare feet will ensure no one gets hurt.

The couple, from Angate Street, Wolsingham, County Durham, have organised the event in Wolsingham Club to raise money for the Butterwick Hospice, in Bishop Auckland.

They helped the hospice a few months ago when they celebrated their first wedding anniversary with a 12,000ft freefall parachute jump.

They also took part in a bungee jump from the Transporter Bridge, Middlesbrough.

Mrs Parkin, a 36-year-old graphic designer with Durham County Council, is looking forward to the firewalk because she has done one before and felt no pain.

She said: “It was just like walking over dry leaves. I would do it twice if I had to.

It doesn’t bother me at all.

“We are given motivational training first, so it is safe. It must be mind over matter. We expect to have a good night.”

The walk will take place in the club garden, and the entertainment will include a fire-eater and fireworks.

Anyone wanting to take part is asked to arrive at 6.30pm, with entertainment from 8pm and the walk at 9.15pm.
