FIREFIGHTERS are urging people in the Northallerton area to attend public firework displays rather than take the risk of using fireworks at home.
The fire service is responsible for organising and running the annual community fireworks display at the town’s Applegarth, which attracts more than 5,000 people.
This year firefighters plan to use the Bonfire Night celebrations to raise awareness about fire safety and the importance of attending organised displays.
Mark Pinder, from Northallerton Fire Station, said: "Bonfire night is undoubtedly our busiest night of the year but we are seeing a reduction in call outs and accidents thanks to organised events such as the Applegarth event.
"We’re asking people from Northallerton and the surrounding area to come along and enjoy the atmosphere on Guy Fawkes night in a safe environment."
The Applegarth event takes place from 6.30pm on Thursday, November 5 and will include a bonfire, fireworks display, fairground attractions and a bouncy castle.
