DISRUPTION to transport is likely to continue in Darlington, while completion of the Haughton Road resurface takes place, towards the centre of town, this week.

The flow of traffic is very slow. Motorists will face delays, while the work is in progress. Darlington Borough Council has announced that they have installed two and three way temporary traffic lights at Eastmount Road and Russell Street junctions.

The lights are off outside Darlington College and Haughton Road Eastern Transport junction, linking various parts of the town. The work has been programmed to coincide with half term, to minimise the impact on vehicles and pedestrians, as the crossings have been turned off.

For motorists travelling on the A66 towards Middlesbrough, Long Newton, Sadberge, or Middleton-St.-George, from the Great Burdon exit, further problems arise out of road works, causing massive tailbacks especially at peak times.

Morning traffic crawls along and in the rush hour it grinds to a halt. A staggered approach to work undertaken by the Council, to give busy motorists more route choices, may have been better received by the affected public
