A UNIVERSITY’S flagship plans for a £48m gateway development have gone on public display.
Residents could take a look at designs for Durham University’s proposed Gateway scheme during a public exhibition held in Durham Town Hall yesterday.
The event was part of the planning and consultation process and organised by Durham County Council.
The university wants to build a new law school, student services centre, library extension and administrative headquarters housing 300 staff on its science site, on Durham City’s Stockton Road.
University officials say the plans follow its vision to deliver world-class facilities for research, education, administration and community and cultural engagement, enhancing Durham’s standing as a leading international university.
However, the plans have attracted criticism from residents and conservationists, who say it would be too big.
Durham county councillors are expected vote on whether to grant planning permission for the scheme in the next few weeks.
