The annual Poppy Appeal was launched last week and, as always, The Northern Echo marked the start of the campaign by displaying the poppy on its front page.
It costs nothing but it's a good way to remind people about the importance of the appeal - especially at a time when our soldiers are risking their lives in Afghanistan.
So far, only two national newspapers have followed suit - The Sun and the Daily Star.
