POLICE have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in Gateshead.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said the force was alerted at 7.15am this morning of the death of a man being taken to hospital by ambulance from a flat in the town's Eslington Court.
A 47-year-old man from the Gateshead area has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The scene has been cordoned off and a post-mortem will take place later today.
