THE first girls to sing in a Durham Cathedral choir are in rehearsals for their ecclesiastical debut.
The choristers-elect, aged nine to 12, have been practising since May for their first cathedral service appearance.
They are expected to sing on Sunday, November 1.
Yesterday, they were rehearsing in the Quire Stalls with the men of the cathedral choir.
Durham Cathedral announced its intention to admit girls to its choir in May last year. Laymen and boys were first admitted to the choir in the 16th Century – services previously having been sung by monks.
