DETECTIVES have released an e-fit of a man they want to question after an assault at Newton Aycliffe railway station, County Durham left a 22-year-old with serious facial injuries.

The incident occurred between 7pm and 7.15pm on Tuesday, October 6, as the victim, a 22-year-old male from Newton Aycliffe waited for a train on the Darlington bound platform at the station.

The victim was approached by two men who demanded cigarettes, money and his mobile phone. After he refused, he was head-butted in the face by one the suspects. The victim then ran out of the station to escape his attackers.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for a broken nose and bruising to his face and eyes.

Detective Constable John Milburn of BTP said. “This was a particularly vicious and unprovoked attack on a victim who was simply minding his own business waiting for a train. He has suffered serious facial injuries. This level of violence is totally unacceptable and it is vital that these offenders are caught.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the efit of the suspect to come forward to police as soon as possible.”

The first male, depicted in the efit, is described as white, 5ft 10inchs tall, 24-25 years old, of medium build, with short dark hair. He wore a white tracksuit and white trainers.

The second male is described as white, 24-25 years old, dark blonde short curly hair and thin framed circular glasses. He wore a grey tracksuit, white trainers and was carrying a large plastic water bottle.
