CHAMPIONS of the criminal justice system have been praised for their work.
Four individuals and six groups in County Durham and Darlington were given awards for their work over the past year.
Judge Richard Lowden, who will stand down as Honorary Judicial Recorder of Durham at the end of the month, made presentations to 45 people who work and volunteer with witnesses and victims.
Individual winners were: Caroline Airs, from the Crown Prosecution Service; Pauline Holbrook, of Newcastle College, for work with young offenders; prison officers Mick Cassidy and Grahame Greener, of Low Newton Prison, near Durham.
Group winners were: County Durham Probation Service’s Citizenship Implementation and Evaluation Team; County Durham Youth Offending Service; County Durham independent advisory groups, working with the criminal justice system in the county; South Durham Magistrates’ Court office; Durham Prison’s team, working with substance misuse offenders; and the prison’s Employer Engagement Partnership, working with the Marriott Hotel, Durham, and the County Durham Waste Management Company.
