VOLUNTEERS have been handing out copies of their weekly news recordings to get around the strike.
Darlington and District Talking Newspaper made alternative arrangements to get its recording to listeners as a result of the strike.
Last week’s recording warned listeners about the potential disruption.
Yesterday, volunteers ran a collection point in the former Cafe Gulp premises, at The Northern Echo offices in Darlington, for listeners or a representative to pick up the recording. Volunteers will be in the Reader Holidays office in The Northern Echo reception from 11am to noon today.
A team has also agreed to deliver uncollected recordings to all listeners in Darlington, with some nearby areas covered. Other CDs will be posted this evening, but may not arrive until Monday.
Talking newspaper secretary Margaret Weeks said: “Our volunteers have been fantastic to ensure that further recordings to every locality in the town.”
Helper David Roberts said: “It is inconvenient, but it has also proved we can adapt. It is also an inconvenience to our listeners because they have to wait longer for our news.”
The talking newspaper has 240 listeners, of whom most live in Darlington.
