UNIVERSITY education in Darlington has come a step closer to reality after councillors approved plans for a £16m campus complex.
Teesside University's expansion into Darlington is expected to be fully open in September 2011 following this afternoon's decision.
The campus, for about 1,000 students, will be part of the Central Park development in Darlington, which already features the new Darlington College complex.
Sport England dropped its concerns over the plans following a compromise over college sporting pitches, which are instead to move to Blackwell Meadows within the town.
Chris Robinson, from the university, said: "We think it is a fantastic scheme for the university, for the town and for the region."
