FURTHER to T Seale’s interesting letter about Wilf Mannion (SHAS, October 5), the match he refers to was the England v Scotland international at Wembley in 1951.
Wilf’s broken jaw injury in the 14th minute came as he and Scotland’s Billy Liddell rose together to head the ball.
Liddell’s head struck Mannion’s jaw and the England man was stretchered off. A 3-2 win for Scotland is among my boyhood memories.
