WALKERS put their best feet forward yesterday when they took part in an event named after a city’s footballing legend.
Niall Quinn, the one-time Sunderland goal-scoring hero, who is now chairman of the club – the region’s only Premiership side – is urging people to take part in Niall’s Mile this week, to raise money for the club’s charitable arm, the SAFC Foundation. Sunderland Teaching Primary Care and Sunderland City Council are backing the project.
Yesterday’s mile walk from Mowbray Park, in the city centre, will be repeated on Thursday.
Today’s and Friday’s walks will start at Seaburn Leisure Centre, tomorrow’s will start at Herrington County Park car park. On Saturday and Sunday, the walks will start from the Bob Stokoe Statue, at the Stadium of Light. All start at 12.30pm. To join in, call 0191-551-5191.
