HATE CRIMES TACKLED: Building Confidence, Creating Community is the theme of an event on Thursday at Malton and Norton Rugby Club, which builds on the launch earlier this year of Third Party Hate Incident Reporting Centres in Ryedale.

The event will include speakers Khalida Ashrafi, from the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Che Bishop from Stop Hate UK, and Inspector Tim Hutchinson of North Yorkshire Police. OCTOBER ODYESSY: The North East Orienteering Championships were held over the weekend, with events across North Yorkshire.

Competitors took part in traditional orienteering, as well as ultrasprinting and urban racing through the streets of Northallerton.

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM: Stokesley and District Round Table raised £300 for the local community with a stand at the Stokesley Show that encouraged budding footballers to try shooting a football through three targets.

The winner of a new bike was Finn Byrne, from Nunthorpe, who was the only person who managed to score three goals.

AUCTION OF PROMISES: Pickering and District Rotary Club are holding an auction of promises on Thursday October 15 at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club for charities including Welburn Hall School, Ryedale Special Families and The Wilf Ward Family Trust.

CHARITY ROWATHON: More than 500 students, staff and parents at Ampleforth College, near York, are joining with members of the public to cover thousands of miles in a Rowathon from October 9-11 to raise funds for the international charity Hope and Homes for Children.

The first annual Rowathon will take place at the St Alban’s Sports Centre, at the college, with the aim of raising £25,000 to help children in projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Moldova and Ukraine.

CHARITY COFFEE MORNING: Sue Farndale, who is recovering from breast cancer, raised £912 by holding a coffee morning in her garden, in Romanby, Northallerton.

The money raised will go to Macmillan and the Complementary Therapy Unit at The Friarage Hospital.
