Meanwhile, Mr Reginald Maudling, the Paymaster-General, has told a Parliamentary debate that prospects for the coal mining industry are nothing like as gloomy as sometimes suggested.
He has accused Mr Alfred Robens (Lab. Blyth) of exaggerating the difficulties. Mr Robens had predicted wholesale unemployment in the industry, particularly in Durham, and said there would be "masses of deserted villages".
The front page advert is for Haig's Scotch Whisky, with the slogan: "Don't be vague, ask for Haig."
