YOUNG sports stars have been thrown into the spotlight after being selected to fly Frisbees for their country.
Teenagers James Lacy and Jake Aspin are preparing for an international fling as part of the under-19 Great Britain Ultimate Frisbee squad at the European Championships, in Vienna, in August.
James, 17, of Romanby, Northallerton, a former under-17 GB squad member, said: "Ultimate Frisbee is a very intense physical activity which requires a higher cardiovascular fitness level than any other field sport.
"It’s similar to American football with a seven-a-side team playing on the pitch at any one time with points being scored by passing the disc to a teammate in your opponent's end zone.
"It is very physically demanding hard sport and it’s great to be selected to play for a national team again."
Bot are students at Northallerton College which is renowned for its Frisbee playing with a number of players being selected for national squads over the past few years.
Joint head of sport Anna Harvey said: "Ultimate Frisbee is a very demanding sport which in the last four years has really taken off.
"We are starting to get a bit of a reputation here for being a Frisbee college and the great thing is that anyone can have a go."
As part of his training James will also be helping classmates raise funds for a Mount Everest expedition by taking part in a ten-and-a-half-mile sponsored swim in Lake Windermere.
