FIRE RESCUE: A teenager was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped by a fire in the floor below her attic bedsit on Saturday, at about 3pm.
The 17-year-old female was reached through a skylight in the loft and carried down a ladder to safety, in Chain Lane, Knaresborough.
Fire investigators believe that the fire, which took hold in the first floor communal area, was started deliberately.
The girl was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
No-one else was in the building, which has a post office on the ground floor, at the time of the incident.
RIDER NAMED: A motorcyclist who died in a collision at New Bridge on the B6479 on Thursday, July 2, has been named as Stuart David McCarthy.
Mr McCarthy, 29, from West Houghton, Bolton, Lancashire, was killed while riding with a group of friends.
Police say no-one else was involved in the collision.
An inquest has been opened and adjourned into Mr McCarthy’s death.
ART ANNIVERSARY: The Morton Art Group is to celebrate its seventh anniversary by combining with the Saturday Painters to hold an art display and sale in Morton on Swale parish hall on Saturday and Sunday, July 11/12, between 10-4pm.
More than 100 pieces of art will be on display from 18 artists. Admission is free.
DIG TALK: Northallerton and District Local History Society are to hold a talk about the finds at an archaeological dig at Hungate, in York.
The talk will be given by project director Pete Connelly, who has uncovered more than 2000 years of history with his team.
The talk will be held at Sacred Heart Church Hall, on Thirsk Road, in Northallerton, at 7pm on Tuesday, July 14.
Non-members are welcome at a charge of £2.00 and students under 18 will be admitted free.
HATS OFF: Diners at the Black Swan Hotel, at Market Square, Helmsley, can meet with milliner Lynda Hatton and find the perfect hat for their special occasion.
Mrs Hatton, who has been designing bespoke hats and fascinators for seven years, will be at the hotel on July 9, with samples of her work.
Tickets for the event are priced at £19.50 per person and will include the demonstration and a two course lunch, from noon.

STROLLERS: Walks with the Hambleton Strollers will take place tomorrow at Northallerton, meeting at the Mowbray House Surgery; in Hutton Rudby, meeting at the Village Hall and at Easingwold at the Galtres Centre, all from 10.15am.
On Wednesday the Strollers will meet at Stokesley Health Centre at 10.15am and on Thursday, the groups meet at Northallerton County Hall at 12.15pm and at Bedale Leisure Centre and Thirsk swimming pool at 10.15am.
