YOUNG sports stars from schools across Hambleton took part in a region-wide sporting event, with many of them tasting success.
More than 200 pupils took part in the Leeds Trinity North Yorkshire Youth Games – held at Ampleforth College – which encourage young people to take part in sport and gives them the opportunity to experience a large scale sports event.
Hambleton entered 19 teams into 12 events and came away with one first place, with year seven, eight and nine’s from Stokesley School triumphing in the gymnastics, seven second places and four thirds.
The teams came from school festivals, club development squads or open trials and were supported by the school sports partnership, Hambleton District Council, voluntary sector clubs and sports governing bodies.
Sports on offer at the games included hockey, athletics, girls football, rugby union, rugby league, netball, gymnastics, cricket, tennis, swimming, orienteering and cross country.
Community leisure officer, Louise Walton, said: "This year has been Hambleton’s most successful of the ten year we have entered.
"This is down to the commitment of the young people, team managers, coaches, and parents – and is something Hambleton is very proud of."
