BRASS music resounded round a city streets to signal the start of a fortnight-long festival featuring performers from across the world.
Free open air performances were staged at the weekend on Durham’s bridges and in the city’s squares – to the delight of passing shoppers and visitors.
Among those taking part in Streets of Brass were Top Dog Brass and Express Brass Band, from Germany, Oompah Brass and the Brass Volcanoes, from the UK, Toni Kitanovski and Cherkezi Orchestra, from Macedonia, plus Le Gros Tube and L’Imperial Kirkiristan, from France.
A busy opening weekend for the festival also included a Brass Party at Durham's Gala Theatre, Teesdale Brass Band Concert, at Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, and a performance by Brass Monkey, at Durham Town Hall.
■ The Black Dyke Brass Band, from Yorkshire, will perform at Durham’s Gala Theatre, at 7.30pm, tonight as part of the festival.
