YOUNG people are to get the chance to develop their lifesaving and first aid skills during a week-long course this summer.
The course at Bedale Leisure Centre for 10 to 16-year-olds is based on the Royal Lifesaving Society’s "Rookie Lifeguard" programme. It also includes first aid from the St John Ambulance.
The course runs from July 27 to 31 course and tutor Myles Strudwick said: "It’s a very valuable tool for any young person to complete.
"At the end of the week we want everyone to be confident enough to put their skills into practice – but we also want them to have fun learning."
To take part young people must have passed stage eight in the National Plan for Teaching Swimming.
