HOME library services in North Yorkshire are being given a boost.
Three new volunteers are being appointed to recruit and support the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service, who deliver books to people who can’t get to a library or carry books themselves.
Each volunteer will cover a third of the county, and their first priority will be to recruit more volunteer drivers to cover rural areas around Richmond, Leyburn and Bedale.
County Coun Chris Metcalfe, executive member for libraries, said: “The readers really appreciate the friendly visit, and the simple delivery of a handful of books can make a real difference to people’s lives.
“The volunteers get a lot out of it too - volunteering is a way of meeting new people, having fun and knowing you can make a difference.”
People are invited to a series of drop-in sessions to find out more about the service. These take place on Tuesday, July 7 from 9am at Hawes Market Hall, and on Thursday, July 9 from 10am-noon at Colburn Library.
