A FOUR-DAY sports summer school for teenagers takes place next week.
More than 140 youngsters from across County Durham will be taking part in supervised coaching sessions on sports as diverse as abseiling, skiing, scuba diving, mountain biking, archery and sailing.
Leadership awards, which may lead on to coaching qualifications, will be available in more traditional sports such as football, cricket and rugby.
Norah Loftus, Advisory Teacher for PE at Durham County Council said: “These students are the crème de la crème of young sporting talent in our schools.
“Many of them are already members of various sports clubs and may well be some of our future Great Britain stars.”
The summer school will be based at Durham University Graham Sports Ground but activities will also be held at other venues throughout the North East.
Events get underway on July 6.
