A NEW series of weekly cycle rides are to be launched this weekend in a bid to encourage more families to take to twho wheels.
Throughout the summer, instructors will lead rides around a number of picturesque routes in the Consett and Stanley area, each between 11-miles and 14-miles long, around Chopwell Woods, Lanchester High Woods, Beamish and Pontop.
The sessions, organised by the Derwentside Lifestyle Initiative, are open to all and families with some cycling experience in cycling are encouraged to take part.
Steve Lynn from Cycle Trex, a North East company supporting the event, said: "Cycling is a low impact form of exercise, meaning that it's accessible for many people of all ages.
"It's kind on the joints and is a really good cardiovascular workout. Couple this with the fact that we've got such beautiful scenery on our doorsteps and we've got the perfect way for people to spend their summer weekends."
Rides take place every Saturday from July 4 until September 26 at 10am. Further information can be obtained by contacting Laura Hood on 01207 218874 or by visiting www.leisureworksonline.co.uk.
