SPECIAL traffic control measures have been announced for the next big race meeting in York.
The Knavesmire course will host the 50th John Smith’s Cup meeting on July 10 and 11.
Directional signage will be posted on major arterial routes into the city to encourage traffic to approach the racecourse via the A1237 or A64. Further signage within the city boundaries will reinforce this.
Parking will be prohibited on Knavesmire Road, Campleshon Road, Albemarle Road (Campleshon Road end), Knavesmire Avenue, Bishopthorpe Road (Campleshon Road end) and Church Lane in Bishopthorpe.
Sim Balk Lane traffic signals will be switched off between 4.30pm and 7pm. The right turn into and out of Sim Balk Lane will be prohibited during this time to allow traffic to flow without the signals operating.
On the departure stage on July 11 only, manually operated temporary traffic lights will be in operation at the Knavesmire Road/Tadcaster Road junction. It is expected that they will be in use between 4.30pm and 7pm, depending on traffic flows.
