TRAIN enthusiasts and tourists can follow work on a £1.7m project on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway due to donated camera.

The tourist railway is working to construct a £1.7m Train of Thought visitor and education centre at Pickering Station.

Backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund by £1m the site will hold a reception area, classroom, archive and interpretation zone.

Hull based Solwise Ltd has donated a security camera to the railway so it can show real-time images of the work.

Louise Barrett, Solwise business development executive, said "We are pleased to help in keeping adults and children better informed and engaged in this important project.

"Once the visitor and education centre is open, we hope the railway can make use of the camera in other ways, to help continue public interest in what is undoubtedly an outstanding attraction and a vital piece of the nation’s heritage."

The centre will be complete in two years but interested parties can view the work on-line at www.thetrainofthought.co.uk.

Murray Brown, chairman of the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust, said "The railway is extremely thankful for this generous offer.

"It really does create a window to the world, and I hope that many browsers of the internet will see it as an added feature in our growing appeal as a heritage railway, registered museum and tourist attraction."
