A MOTORBIKE-MAD police officer is celebrating his retirement after 30 years in the saddle.

Mick Alder, of Bishop Auckland, has been the longest-serving member of Durham Police’s motorcycle section, spending 22 years with the team.

The 49-year-old said: “I have always been mad about motorbikes.

“I thought I would do a couple of years in the bike unit and then move on, but I enjoyed it so much that I ended up staying there.”

Mr Alder will continue to help the force provide advanced training for bikers who have just passed their test.

He will also carry on helping Durham Police with the annual Bikewise Show, due to take place at Aykley Heads, in Durham, on August 16, and will continue to run a bike club for six to 16-year-olds.
