YOUNGSTERS took to the stage with a play that urges people to think again about the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
Children in Years Four and Five at Bullion Lane Primary School, Chester-le-Street have been studying the rainforest and performed Debbie Campbell's Emerald Crown to parents and carers this afternoon.
The eight to ten year olds have been working hard all term to ensure the performance goes well and have been involved in countless rehearsals as well as helping to prepare the set, costumes and scenery.
The Emerald Crown aims to persuade people not to destroy the rainforest and encourages them to look for the treasures that the jungle holds.
The theme has been woven into all subjects from science and geography to music, English and art.
Pupil Mercedes Davison, ten, said: "I really love being on stage and showing people what we've learned.
"It's been really hard work but the teachers make it fun so it's not too bad. Me and my brothers have been practicing at home after school to make sure we know our lines!"
Class teacher Kate Middleton said: "The children have really put in the effort to make this performance perfect. I'm really proud of them."
