VILLAGERS at Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, who opened their gardens to the public and served home-made teas, raised £1,225 for St John Ambulance North Yorkshire and Teesside.
One of those who took part, Mrs Tish Haggie of Aldborough Lodge said: "The money was raised in just four hours, from 1pm to 5pm. A total of nine gardens were opened – some on the spur of the moment.
"Everyone in the village mucked-in, bringing items such as cakes and biscuits for the teas. It was a heart-warming demonstration of the very strong community spirit that still exists here."
The county executive director of St John Ambulance, Richard Haynes, said: "I would like to thank the residents of Aldborough for their wonderful support and can assure them that their hard-earned contribution will be wisely spent."
