PUPILS from schools across the region got the chance to find out more the armed forces, and the sacrifices soldiers make in the course of war, at a special event at an interactive museum.
190 students from schools in Catterick, York, Scarborough and Northallerton visited Eden Camp Modern History Museum as part of events for Armed Forces Day, and met Yorkshire-based service personnel, veterans and cadets.
The event was organised by the Yorkshire branch of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).
Retired Sqn Ldr Ted Sumner, a 38-year RAF veteran and SSAFA spokesperson, said: "Children have been able to relate with real people who brought their class room studies and the Eden Camp exhibits to life and feedback from schools has shown that the experience has enriched pupil’s history and social studies knowledge. "In turn, Servicemen, women and veterans have relished the opportunity to discuss their lives with inquisitive youngsters and set aside any misconceptions."
