IT’S every child’s dream the get chance to rip their school uniform to shreds and pupils at a village primary school got the chance to do just that as the school year came to an end.
At the start of next term students at Fountains Primary School, in Grantly, near Ripon, are to start wearing a new dark green uniform, to replace their current pale green one.
To avoid the unwanted uniforms going to waste the school has created a rag rug with the remnants of old sweatshirts and T-shirts, which the children were allowed to cut or rip up themselves.
The rug, which has the school logo in the middle, will go in the school library as a reading area.
It was made at a meeting of the Fresh Expressions family services, where pupils and their parents are encouraged to work together at craft and fun activities for the school.
Headteacher Mrs Jill Pemberton said: "Many parents felt the pale green sweatshirts not only faded quickly, but also showed dirt and stains.
"Our new uniform, which is a much darker colour, is bold and smart and has won both parents’ and pupils’ approval. I look forward to seeing a fresh look for the start of a new year in school in September."
