JOB cuts, spending cuts and a shake up of vital services are all needed to save money at a council, it has been announced.

Estimates say that up to 350 people could lose their jobs at the City of York Council, which needs to save at least £15.5m in the next three years.

An efficiency report published by the council says that job losses are ‘inevitable’ but that natural wastage will be used where ever possible.

Council leader Andrew Waller has said that the quality of services will not be cut in the efforts to save funds, but the plans have been slammed by trade unions who say they are appalled at the level of the cuts to jobs and services.

Money saving suggestions put forward in the report, called More for York, include closing reception points and replacing them with a single customer service unit, more services provided online and having less computer equipment.
