One EskimO are a four piece indie rock band from London, and despite a small fan base their music is a unique melodic mix of funky soft riffs and powerful vocals. The venue was fairly empty, giving you the feeling that the band aren’t very widely known, however after hearing just one track you can’t possibly understand why the show wasn’t sold out. Kicking off with Hometime the small crowd of dedicated fans went wild and the academy came alive. One EskimO are a band accompanied by animation created by Passion Pictures , the team that brought us Gorillaz, each member of the band is represented by a cartoon character, a penguin, eskimo, giraffe and a comical monkey. The animation was shown on a large screen behind the band and the music seemed to be the soundtrack to the film giving the performance a unique modern take on the silent movie. One EskimO’s set list included explosive pop-indie tracks Kandi and Amazing which hyped the audience to the maximum. Kandi’s poetic vocals had a dream like quality that perfectly accompanied the animated trip of One EskimO collecting stars as they wandered through a fantasy world. Somehow their music is honest and it seemed like the band meant every word they sang. One EskimO are an outstanding band and yes there is room for improvement on their live performance but they certainly deserve more recognition than they are getting.
