HUNDREDS of children took part in a fun run in County Durham yesterday – though hundreds more were left disappointed when the afternoon session was rained off.
The event, held at Belle Vue Leisure Centre, in Consett, County Durham, was organised by Derwentside School Sports Partnership and LeisureworksTry Five Project.
It was a celebration of sport and physical activity and aimed to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and healthy eating to encourage children and their parents to adopt healthier lifestyles.
About 1,700 children took part in the morning.
The afternoon session for 1,100 young children had to be abandoned because of the rain.
Organisers said the children who did not take part would still get their goody bags and their schools would be encouraged to hold their own minievents.
