POLICE are renewing their appeal for witnesses to a serious assault which left a Middlesbrough man fighting for his life.
Offiicers say they are disappointed with the response to an appeal for information about the incident, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, in or around Devonshire Road in Linthorpe.
A 55-year-old man was found with serious head and facial injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital.
The victim is making a slow recovery from his injuries but has been able to talk to detectives.
Detective Sergeant John Wrintmore of Middlesbrough CID, said: "The victim continues to make a steady recovery and is in a stable condition. I have visited him and he is able to communicate and recall certain things.
"This was undoubtedly a vicious and unnecessary attack, resulting in near fatal injuries, and I would urge anyone with any information to contact me."
Witnesses can call Middlesbrough police office on 01642-303126 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
