MICHAEL Jackson was unconscious, not breathing and not responding to anything when the 911 emergency call was made, the recording showed today.

The caller said he needed an ambulance "as soon as possible" and said only the personal doctor had been with Jackson at the time he fell ill, according to the recording released by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

During the call, the man said: "Sir, we have a gentleman here that needs help and he's not breathing.

"He's not breathing and we're trying to pump him, but he's not ... he's not breathing. He's not conscious, sir."

The caller said Jackson was on the bed.

He added: "We have a personal doctor here with him sir, but he;s not responding to anything. He's not responding to CPR.

"The doctor's been the only one here.

"He's pumping his chest but he's not responding to anything sir."

Later, the Los Angeles coroner said further tests will be needed to determine Jackson's cause of death.

Craig Harvey, operations chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner's office, said the result of the post-mortem examination had been deferred as more tests were needed. These were expected to take four to six weeks, he said.

He added there was no evidence of foul play or trauma on the superstar's body.
