MUSICIANS from across the region are going head to head in a two-day battle of the bands competition that starts today. (FRIDAY) The free event takes the form of a free music and arts festival at Bishop Auckland College’s new campus on the town’s Woodhouse Lane.
To promote the event students from the college have been entertaining shoppers this week by busking in the town centre.
Steve McCormick, from the college, said the festival, now in its second year, was going to be even bigger and better than the last one.
The battle of the bands award will be presented by Bishop Auckland Town Council mayor, David Wilson.
The prize includes a day’s recording at Bishop Auckland College's new state of the art recording studios. The event runs from 5.30 to 10pm today and from 12noon until 10pm on Saturday on the field adjacent to the college and the line up includes tribute acts and original artists.
On both days a contemporary art exhibition and free art workshops will take place and there will be a beer tent and fairground attractions.
Many of the performers have been taking part in summer workshops, for 14 to 18-year-olds, that have been held at the college.
