A COUNTY DURHAM baby has been diagnosed as having swine flu.
The child was admitted to North Tees Hospital in Stockton in a poorly condition, and later tested positive for swine flu.
The baby has been given anti viral medication and is now stable. Family members and staff who have been in close contact with the baby have been offered anti viral medication as a precautionary measure.
NHS Stockton on Tees is working closely with North Tees and Hartlepool Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the HPA to monitor the situation.
Professor Peter Kelly, Executive Director of Public Health for the Tees area, said: "We are working with North Tees and Hartlepool Hospital Foundation Trust who have responded very positively and quickly in treating the baby.
"We are pleased to say the baby is stable and recovering well. The baby’s family and hospital staff who have been in close contact with the baby have been contacted and offered anti-viral medication (Tamiflu) as a precaution.
"We continue to work closely with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Foundation Trust to monitor the situation extremely closely."
