YOUNGSTERS have been given an important lesson on cycle safety from a trio of Police Community Support Officers.
PCSOs Steve Larter, Claire Laidler and Stuart Howarth are running a cycle event at Chester-le-Street Church of England Junior School yesterday.
They gave up to 48 pupils road safety advice before accompanying them on a bike ride from the school to Park View Comprehensive School's North Lodge site.
They also carried out the security marking of the children’s bicycles. Youth Issues Liaison Officer Janine Duffin said: "With the long school summer holiday only a few weeks away it’s important that the youngsters are alerted to the importance of road safety.
"The event gave them the opportunity not only to learn about safety but also got them out of the classroom for some exercise.
"The security coding of the machines will mean that if any of them are stolen they will be easier to reunite with their rightful owners."
