YOUNG volunteers were yesterday doing their bit to help their village’s bid for gardening glory.
Youngsters taking part in the Prince’s Trust volunteering scheme were putting the finishing touches to a floral display in Seaside Lane, Easington depicting the organisation’s logo.
The team has spent the past week creating the display, with help from the Durham County Council-run Pride In Easington scheme as part of the village’s efforts in the annual Northumbria In Bloom Awards.
Judges from the competition will be visiting Easington on July 9.
Michelle Morton, from Pride In Easington, said: “As well as digging over the plot and planting it up, the group also put a lot of effort into fundraising, taking part in a number of sponsored activities in order to raise the cash to buy the flowers.”
