A CANCER charity has teamed up with a recycling company to launch a scheme to raise money for cancer research and help the environment at the same time.
Yorkshire Cancer Research and Northallerton-based Bag2TheFuture are working together to collect unwanted textiles, which are worth £400 to the charity for each tonne collected.
Clothes can be collected in normal carrier bags or refuse sacks, but Bag2TheFuture will also provide environmentally-friendly bags that hold up to 10kg of clothes, free of charge.
The scheme is being launched on Monday (June 22) to coincide with National Recycling Week, which takes place between June 22-28.
Collections can be organised by individuals, companies, schools or community groups and Bag2TheFuture will provide a free pick up service for every 20 bags filled.
Recent research by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has shown that about 74 per cent of the two million tonnes of clothing we buy every year will end up in landfills.
To order collection bags or to arrange pick up of at least 20 bags of unwanted textiles, call Bag2TheFuture on 01609 780222.
