DETECTIVES are this afternoon waiting to talk to a woman who suffered serious facial injuries after a fall in her home.

The mother-of-two, from Ingleby Arncliffe, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, remains under sedation in hospital.

She airlifted to hospital after being found by her 11-year-old son at the foot of a flight of stairs, on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman has been named locally as 53-year-old Margaret Barlow.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said officers had not yet been able to speak to Mrs Barlow about what had happened.

Police have not been able to confirm whether or not they are looking for anyone in connection with the incident.

The spokeswoman said: "The reason we are not able to say on way or another is because she is sedated to help her to recover.

"We have not been able to talk to her yet.

"We are waiting for her to regain consciousness, so we can get her version of what happened.

"Until then, we are unable to say whether the incident is being treated as suspicious."

No arrests have been made in connection the incident.

Mrs Barlow today remains in a serious but stable condition in the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, said police.

She is believed to be a midwife at the same hospital.

Emergency services were called to the house, at about 4.10pm, on Tuesday.

Mrs Barlow was airlifted to hospital by a crew from the Great North Air Ambulance.

Part of the village was cordoned off by police to allow an investigation to take place.
