USAIN Bolt stormed to the fastest 100 metres in the world this year with a breathtaking performance of 9.77 seconds last night only for the wind to be a fraction over the legal limit at the IAAF Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava.
The Olympic champion showed he will again be the man to beat at the IAAF World Championships in August as he scorched ahead of his rivals in his first European track meeting of the year.
But for the wind the 22- year-old Jamaican’s effort would have decimated the meeting record of 9.85secs.
Bolt, with a following wind reading 2.1 metres per second, was slowest out of the blocks but once the 6ft5in triple Olympic champion stretched out he overpowered the opposition.
Craig Pickering, the 2007 Ostrava champion, ran what will rank as one of the best races of his career when he finished second in 10.08.
