A TOWN will join civic, church and military leaders next week to honour the country’s fighting forces.
A flag-raising ceremony will be held by Ferryhill Town Council on Monday, June 22, to mark the first Armed Forces Day five days later.
The Armed Forces Day flag features the upper half of the Union flag with ‘Armed Forces Day 27 June’ on the lower half.
It will be raised at the town centre flagpole at 10.30am, followed by refreshments in the town hall, and remain flying until Monday June 29.
Mostly district, county and unitary councils were invited to participate but Ferryhill Town Council contacted organisers to plea for inclusion so it could show its pride and gratitude for the armed forces community.
Once the flag is lowered it will be presented to a local veteran.
